Thanks for the news and updates on this.  I so rarely checkout what new
services are available that I didn't even know it was available until
you posted this.  I actually day after your first post about this to see
about upgrading, but of course my area won't be ready until May 09...
guess I am stuck at 100Mbps for now.

I have always gotten great speeds from downloading movie trailers at
Apple's site, often times a full 10 MB/s (on KDDI's Hikari One
(100Mbps)).  Any chance you can try to download the Knowing 1080p
trailer with wget and let us know what you get:

wget http://movies.apple.com/movies/summit/knowing/knowing-tlr2_h1080p.mov

The final result spit out by wget says 8.30 MB/s.  I am curious what
kind of speeds you can pull.

I would love to be advertising for KDDI right now if it meant I had 1
Gbps fiber in my home... I would love it.
