That's probably a good suggestion, but I know for a fact now that my 
scanner is broken. Because I just broke it.

Long story short, it looked like the chain that regulates the movement 
of the LED device was loose. I attempted to open the scanner for a 
closer look. Minutes later, my scanner was in a state of entropy.

Um... okay... but why would I do that? From what I can tell, they 
release drivers for Linux and over all I've had good success with 
getting them to work.

Which brand would you recommend?
