That proprietary bias in deep in their marrow, at least as long ago as VHS versus Beta. That the performance you get running Linux on a Vaio is not as good as when running Windows is to be _expected_, because Sony is so proprietary. It'll take extra work on your part to get the highest performance from your proprietary Vaio.
