Google and Android have been major factors in shifting the boundary of
my "I can just look that up" partition.

Haven't they ever! Although I stubbornly want a bit more information to be at my own recall (hence my first post), I agree entirely with the following quote:

"As Nobel laureate Herbert Simon wisely stated, the meaning of "knowing" has shifted from being able to remember and repeat information to being able to find and and use it."

I didn't even know who Herbert Simon was, but I just googled him. Interesting guy, I could read about his work all day ... evil, evil, google.
