For SATA you need a _very_ recent kernel (2.6.15-rc AFAIK) or
manually patch yours with the libata passthrough patches.  After
that I'd kind of expect hdparm to work.  (But can't test ATM, my
Notebook has SATA, but is still on 2.6.14.2 :-))
