Your comments contributed to this thread greatly, if only because they
caused Jim P. to hold forth on the topic. Jim is a jack of all trades
(and a master of most of them): hardware, software, electronics, even
Ham radio. :)

I know software, and it is becoming increasingly obvious to me that
most of my "knowledge" on other topics is not as well-founded as I
thought.
