Just for the curiosity ... does anyone know how to find out with SATA
drive? The above mentioned command does not work for me (I have SATA
drive). But I found a hint about using "sdparm" for SCSI and SATA
drives. Thus I have tried it and here is what it says (using sdparm
version: 0.95 20050729):

# sdparm -ll /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: ATA       ST3120827AS       3.42
    PQual=0  Device_type=0x0  RMB=0  version=0x05  [SPC-3]
    [AERC=0]  [TrmTsk=0]  NormACA=0  HiSUP=0  Resp_data_format=2
    SCCS=0  ACC=0  TGPS=0  3PC=0  Protect=0  BQue=0
    EncServ=0  MultiP=0  MChngr=0  [ACKREQQ=0]  Addr16=0
    [RelAdr=0]  WBus16=0  Sync=0  Linked=0  [TranDis=0]
    CmdQue=0
  Read write error recovery [PS=0] mode page:
      AWRE 1 [ sav: 1] Automatic write reallocation enabled
      ARRE 1 [ sav: 1] Automatic read reallocation enabled
      PER         0  [ sav:  0]  Post error
  Caching (SBC) [PS=0] mode page:
      WCE 1 [ sav: 1] Write cache enable
      RCD 0 [ sav: 0] Read cache disable
  Control [PS=0] mode page:
      SWP 0 [ sav: 0] Software write protect

... which does not include any security related info as far as I can
tell :)

Best regards
Michal
