May I ask why don't you consider using another distribution like Ubuntu?  At the very least, you can then bring your questions to askubuntu.com and see if anyone there can help.  (I'm not aware of a similar web site for Mint; but I guess such a site should exist.)

I have a couple of 2012-era AMD-CPU'd boxes running the latest Debian (9.8+) and *'buntu variables (primarily Lubuntu).  You can configure your sources to pull legacy drivers easily in either ... which is definitely necessary if your mobo uses Realtek chips for comms / audio.  I do not use, but am aware of similar legacy firmware packages for mousies and keyboards.  Maybe one of them will be appropriate for your setup.
