Ohhhhh....  Yeah...  I think you're right!  I read that wrong!  Well, even for floppies, archivists always have a need for that sort of thing.  If nothing else, having all components of a technology from a specific time is relevant for properly understanding the history of technology.

About the tapes - as I understand it, going back to the 70's or 60's or 50's is pushing it, but the quality of tape circa 1990 was really good.  For video tape, I've noticed that the VHS tape I have from around 1988-90 has noticeably degraded, with the picture having turned purple along one edge, etc., while 8mm Hi8 metal tape still plays back correctly - so it appears that metal tapes not only provide better quality, but last longer.

Anyway... to Attila: Sorry for misunderstanding what you said!
