Actually, that's a fairly common occurrence in many smartphones.

S60 Symbian phones sometimes suffer weird crashes and things not working as
they should until you clear the user's settings. I've had it happen on a
couple of Nokia smartphones I've had, and also, curiously, on an older S40
java-based phone too.
