The 80286, not to mention the 8086 and 8088.  N.B., due to the huge
economies of scale in chip production, it's not really appropriate to
include price in talking about quality here.  Of course price drove
the economics of the market, though.

MOS Tech and Nat Semi are hardly poster children for your story, after
all.
