Unless you have been given permission to copy it, or are copying it
under circumstances where you can argue it's fair use (usually only
quoting a part of the article), yes, it's a violation.

How do you know that? Under the Berne convention, to which most
countries are aligned, you need not make any explicit claim; just having
written the article is implicit (and valid) claim that you own the
copyright.
