WinSCP is a Windows application if I'm not mistaken.

How would you use it on a Linux machine? Remember, we're talking about
Linux to Linux here, not Linux to Windows.

Obviously I shouldn't be replying to these messages in the mornings.

Of course, it's less secure than ssh. Then again, if this network
service is being shielded from the outside then it's nowhere near as
critical.

True. Although if conditions change, or are not as secure as thought, a big hole can open up.
