Position Description:

 

General Purpose
Technical specialist providing business infrastructure solutions, services and support, in a research and development environment. Technical specialist in user care, application development and configuration, IT platforms management and development, installation and maintenance, computing and network operations, or system analysis and design.

 

Main Responsibility Areas
These areas can include: Develops, implements and maintains information systems, processes and concepts. Tests and installs (hardward/software) information management systems. Responds to client requests. The responsiblity areas can vary depending on requirements and skill.

 

Scope
Individual Contributor: Participates as individual contributor to team, usually with limited professional expertise. Makes decisions affecting own work within set parameters, elevates others. Reviews priorities with supervisor. Supporting a dynamic business critical environment.

 

Impact
Accountable for quality and accuracy of own objectives. Responsible for contribution to teamwork. Errors may have an impact on function/project. 

 

 

Requirements:

 

The primary competencies are: troubleshooting, can work alone and also in a team, research and find solutions from the Internet and other resources, fast learner, understanding of overview and also details, takes initiative, willing to do the advanced and also basic tasks, and most importantly can respect others.

 

The technical skills sorted after are:
System administration/troubleshooting skills in primarily UNIX and Linux. Being able to get into the root cause of a problem dealing with OS/application related issues. Basic Networking skills to be able to work in a small layer-3 LAN environment. Perl scripting for system administration. Interest and hands on knowledge in IT security.

 

The team communicates locally and also with global counterparts so English is important and is the language in which the team operates. Moderate understanding of English is required.

 

In short the personality is the most important and not always the skill. If your skills do not meet all the requirements but am willing to learn by yourself or with help then it is ok too.

 

 
Business Unit Description:

 

Business Unit Description: The team consist of 6 members including the manager. The team is highly technical with skills ranging in all areas of IT. With each member required to understand at an average level every aspect of IT from basic system administration and cabling to high availability network design and system interoperability design. To know everything is not required but the desire to learn is a must. The team is not just a group but a family so there is no individuals and no one is better than the other even though skills do vary. The environment in R&D is very dynamic and requirements are fast so it is very challenging. This job does not require to work crazy hours as long as the work get's done reasonably then it's very flexible. But there are times when pulling long hours is needed to get requirements done. Management style tend to be direct, open, and frank.
