That's what M-x dired is for, which has the added benefits that (a)
your FTP client is your editor and (b) you get the same benefits for
any remote file transfer protocol (so far only scp, ssh, ftp, sftp,
and rsync are supported out of the box, but you can also chain them,
eg, ssh to a host where you can use ftp and then automatically send
the files back through the ssh tunnel.
