The standard header to the pages issued by the site's CGI reads:

***

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
           "http://www.w3.org/TR/html40/loose.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=EUC-JP">
<title>Distributed Translation Project (Distra)</title>
</head>

***

This turns up valid when the site is run through the HTML validator on
http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator, and as far as I know this should
specify the EUC-JP character set for the benefit of the garden variety Web
browser. The Lynx on my laptop shows:

***

Lynx Version 2.8rel.2

File that you are currently viewing

   Linkname: Distributed Translation Project (Distra)
        URL: http://www.nomolog.nagoya-u.ac.jp/distra/
    Charset: euc-jp
     Server: Apache/1.3.3 (Unix) Debian/GNU
       Date: Sun, 12 Dec 1999 05:16:39 GMT
   Owner(s): None
       size: 19 lines
       mode: forms mode

***

Maybe your mileage is varying ... is there something else I should be
sticking in there? Does anyone else out there have problems with font
selection on this site?

Cheers,
