Running Mandrake 6.1 (which is basically redhat 6.0) I put in Kterm. Used it without problem. Just reinstalled, for various reasons--I don't think I left out anything relevant, but when I put kterm back in, it when it starts, I get a message reading could not open <null> trying to open fixed. Then, when I tried two test files, one done in EUC and one in JIS, it will show, (when the correct mode is chosen--that is, if I choose EUC to look at the EUC file) large black rectangles rather than the Japanese text. For the heck of it, tried using JIS on the EUC file and vice versa and just got the expected mojibake. I feel like I'm missing something obvious here--but not quite sure what.
