I don't think that you can input it in directly.  However, you
can do the conversion from romaji directly to katakana and 
avoid the hiragana intermediate step.

If I type "kureggu"  then type C-n, it translates into クレッグ.  
Obviously, if you type this word a lot, it is better to add the
word to your personal Canna dictionary.  There is a menu
system to add words to your Canna dictionary.  Enter into extended
mode with M-x canna-extend-mode.  I think the menu item is
単語登録.  You can move up a menu level with C-g.  Once you 
input the word into the dictionary typing should be fairly
fast. If you 登録 your name, the Canna conversion server will
automatically be able to correctly convert a line like 
watashinonamaehaodatenkureggudesu as  私の名前は小田・クレッグです.

Before I added my name to the dictionary, I would have to extend
the conversion area of kureggu a few times with C-o.
