From: Manuel Chakravarty <chak@example.com> Subject: tlug: Canna question Date: Thu, 11 Jun 1998 13:29:01 +0900 chak> * Can I directly enter katakana? I always enter hiragana chak> and then press space for conversion. If the word is not chak> in the dictionary, I press two times up-arrow to get chak> katakana. That are definitely too many keystrokes. I don't think that you can input it in directly. However, you can do the conversion from romaji directly to katakana and avoid the hiragana intermediate step. If I type "kureggu" then type C-n, it translates into クレッグ. Obviously, if you type this word a lot, it is better to add the word to your personal Canna dictionary. There is a menu system to add words to your Canna dictionary. Enter into extended mode with M-x canna-extend-mode. I think the menu item is 単語登録. You can move up a menu level with C-g. Once you input the word into the dictionary typing should be fairly fast. If you 登録 your name, the Canna conversion server will automatically be able to correctly convert a line like watashinonamaehaodatenkureggudesu as 私の名前は小田・クレッグです. Before I added my name to the dictionary, I would have to extend the conversion area of kureggu a few times with C-o.
