Stephen,

Do you have a digital copy? Maybe the publisher is okay with that? The
book is so old, I doubt there's a chance for them to monetize it.

If you can find a digital copy, it might be interesting as a
historical snapshot and serve as a seed to motivate younger people to
push forward in messy standards environments. I think the files were
on CVS, the spiritual ancestor to git.

When times are messy, there's often opportunity. My friend Cliff
started a company called Turbolinux (renamed from Pacific HiTec)
around that time. Initially, it tied together some pieces from
Japanese, then CJK, then eventually moved into general
desktop/servers. I'm actually seeing him tomorrow for lunch.

I'm wondering what Japan is doing with AI compliance and AI
governance. It would be interesting to read through more of the
government documents and compare to the US and Europe.

Japan still seems filled with so much opportunity if we can identify
gaps to fit in.

I'm going to read through Jim Breen's paper later today. The guy is
the most influential person for Japanese support in computer systems
in my opinion. A true legend with a huge impact on the world.
Interestingly, language and computational linguistics are picking up
steam due to the opportunities and limitations of LLMs.

I think my friend Cliff specialized in computational linguistics back
in the day.
