Wow, what a treat to hear from you.

That book project was a real privilege for me to work with serious
academics like you.

It was a great time when a bunch of Linux hobbyists could cooperate
and make some small contributions to the knowledge pool.  Unicode,
UTF-16, was just a baby and shift-jis was the godzilla of the time, a
big monster rambling through Tokyo and destroying things.  ;-).
There was no shelter in EUC on Linux as the world was getting
connected, one TCP/IP packet at time. But, I don't remember JIS being
a safe haven either.  And, wasn't there a major and disruptive glibc
change right at that time?

Thank you for all your work.  I think we all did what we could.  My
technical ability was limited compared to other people, but I was
enthusiastic and young.

It's a great memory for me.
