Can you be more specific about what kind of nothing it does? For
example, how long does it take to do nothing? Does it produce any
output or error messages when doing nothing? Did you click it to make
it do nothing, or did you run it in a terminal where it did nothing?

In essentially no time at all, absolutely nothing happens. Which may be
fairly efficient, but not much use. I did try clicking the Ubu12 one as
well.
I sort of expect this to start some gui installation-looking thing,
though the file name doesn't include 'install'. It might need sudo ?,
except that all the possibilities I can imagine would end with an error
message.
I will read the other comments more carefully. Gotta stop in a bit for
NHK Russian (a good place for Russians to practice Japanese). More to
come; privyet, spasibo.
