So it's a laser-jet printer then....  (black only I take it)

That could very well be the problem.  The amount of pressure at
various points as the paper goes between rollers and fuses the toner
to the paper is important.

Well - it depends on exactly which direction the guides are
pushing/pulling and what effect that will have on other rollers,
etc....
