Darren, Thank you for replying.Why did it boot so much quicker when you tried the Ubuntu 10 live CD then? Or did you have the external hard disk unplugged then, and never made the connection?That's a good question.A quick test just now confirms: Even with legacy support on and the USB external drive connected, the computer gets to the Ubuntu splash screen quicker when booting from the live CD.Theory: When the BIOS finds a bootable CD-ROM, it doesn't go checking the external HD for a bootable partition. In other words, it's probably the combination of legacy USB support and searching for a bootable drive that causes the delay.What do you think? -- Dave M G
