Are Sun employees allowed to run MacOS? ;)

Oh, there are many Macs here. :) Most of us use Sun Rays, though, and as Solaris moves to the desktop many more are running Solaris on their laptops.

Seriously though, why not OpenSolaris at home as well?

Well, when I work at home (email, browser, irc, gaim, openoffice), I'm primarily using Solaris. Actually, I'm currently running OpenSolaris Developer Preview 2, which is quite nice since it's much smaller than Solaris and/or Solaris Express. It's still a bit beta, but it installs from one CD in just a few clicks, it boots/runs much faster, wireless works out of the box, and it has the new package management system in there, too (though that part has no GUI yet). So, non-techies like me can now use Solaris to get around without too much pain. :) Finally.

But for non-work home use, I prefer the Mac. I'm trying to get into digital photography, and I just think the user experience on Solaris and Linux for photography is not nearly as good as the Mac. In a pinch, GIMP on Linux or Solaris is just fine for me to touch up some images when I'm traveling, but not to spend any real time on it.
