I'm currently using OOO 2.3.1 (app-office/openoffice-bin-2.3.1) with
scim (app-i18n/scim-1.4.5-r1) and anthy (app-i18n/anthy-9100 +
app-i18n/scim-anthy-1.2.4) in Gentoo without any problems.

The key was having a LC_* setting that included utf (en_AU.UTF-8 in my
case).

I haven't had a problem with the binaries and Japanese input since 2.0

Emerging OOO from source just takes too long (24-36 hours even with
gcc-cache)

Cheers

Stu
