I'm not good at writing a résumé or CV, but I still have some tips.
The most important one is to write a new CV for each job you are
interested in.

+1

If you show a prospective employer that you are not interested enough
in the job to cull the cruft from your CV, they are less likely to be
interested in you.

That also means you should, IMO, avoid sending CVs to
recruitment companies without a specific job in mind. Stupid keyword
matching and stupider agents will only waste your time.

Very excellent point.

If [you find a good headhunter], ask them
to help write your CV. They get paid if you get the job, so they
might as well work for the money.

Yes, but word of warning: make sure you have a look at the results of their edits before they send it on to the client.

I know a bloke (who shall remain nameless unless he decides to relate
his tale of woe; he's on this list) who applied to a top-tier Internet
company through an agency, and the damned slimey recruiter "spiced up"
his CV with a lot of out-and-out lies, which then the poor chap was
quizzed on in the interview. Needless to say, he did not get past the
initial screen.

And the worst part, the guy would have done a great job, but the agent
killed his chances on some bullshit.
