Or she could get them with academic discount if her school is qualified.  Same goes for Photoshop.

Also, whether a Mac fits her or not probably depends on what is being used during the courses she's taking.  If the class is taught with a Mac and everybody in the class is using one it is probably easier for her to get help with one, and vice versa.
