In Japan, some lawyers consider that DVD decryption is legal. Because
the technology is not copy protection, understand as a playing control
technology.
It is an interpretation of some lawyers, so there is lying a risk of
infringement about the copyright law in Japan.
On the other hand, there is a proprietary and clearly legal player in
Japan, PowerDVD for Linux. Unfortunately it is only bundled in a
product called TurboLinux 10 D2F, and it is very old product (sold in
2004).
It is a sensitive issue...
