Yah, but the problem is the OS that Apple wrapped around the PPC.
Especially the file system.  "Tiger" is perceptibly faster than
"Panther", but HFS+ is still dog-slow compared to any real *nix FS.

Do the new Macs still use HFS+?  I suppose they must....

The other thing is that it's really unfair to compare a heavily-
threaded single CPU system with a heavily-threaded dual CPU system.

I'm waiting for Opteron-based Macs ... now, *that* should scream. ;-)
