Dave, I have to "third" that nomination. While my motto is "don't fix what ain't broke", and in principle sympathize with only upgrading as needed, IIRC you chose this service because they're fairly cheap. That doesn't jibe with putting in the amount of effort required to properly maintain what is effectively a personal distro. You're also going to run into the same kind of problem over and over again, because every time you want to add new functionality you'll have to repeat this process. The base distro is simply too old to have the tools that modern packages expect to have available. Of course you can always revisit the decision, but if I'm not confusing you with someone else, the last time we talked about this stuff you said you wanted to be a web designer, not a sys admin. It may cost enough more to hurt, but IMO you should get a hosting service that allows you to do what you want to do, and delegate what you don't want to do to the service. -- School of Systems and Information Engineering http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Ask not how you can "do" free software business; ask what your business can "do for" free software.
