Actually, my Deb and Gentoo sections are going to be sadly curtailed.
:-(, mostly consisting of links. For Gentoo, the link will be
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1852138
For Debian, two links, both of which a Debian (and its offshoots) using
friend found quite helpful.
http://www.mepis.org/node/5638
Another one that the friend found quite useful (though he comments that
it's for a previous version of Ubuntu)
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/JapaneseInput/Howto
Lastly, what he described as short, sweet and newer
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=27811
As Ubuntu and Mepis are based on Deb, he said that they worked perfectly
for him.
