That's because the XFree86 people can't even follow standards that
they have themselves deliberately forked from X.org.  Nothing later
than XFree86 3.3 should be considered stable.  :-)

Basically, if (as an app maintainer) you need to support X
installations other than XFree86, you fear every release of XFree86.
They're as bad as, if not worse than, the proprietary vendors.
