ok, I dont quite follow. I only ever set LANG and LC_ALL. If I do not set
any of then the locale is by default POSIX/C. Also if LC_ALL is set,
setting one of the LC_* variables does nothing. And from the man page,
LC_ALL overrides LANG. I however set this just in case of badly
written/buggy software. In theory, the bare minimum for Japanese input is
to just set LC_CTYPE. I just prefer to live safely and set LANG and LC_ALL
:)
