kterm seems to support fever colours than a regular color-xterm or
rxvt. The regular color-xterm and rxvt support 16 colours, which can
be selected using entries in .Xresources like 

XTerm*color[n]:  black

   with [n] = 0 ... 15

These settings are honoured by xterm, nxterm, and rxvt, but not by
kterm. kterm gives my fever colours, some of these default colours are
barely readable on a light background, and I don't know how to change
the default colours for kterm.

The kterm version I am using is:

    mike@example.com ~$ kterm -version
    kterm: version 6.2.0
