Can anyone confirm that this is still working?

I was able to install Japanese input and fonts on an eeePC last Summer. I believe I used the instructions found here: http://km294.blogspot.com/2008/01/eeepc.html I had to uninstall the default scim package to get Japanese input running (that was not included in the instructions I used).

However, to be honest, I am now using my Dell mini 9 much more these days. These come with Ubuntu 8.04 and already are set-up for Japanese (you can order them here: http://configure.apj.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=jp&cs=jpdhs1&l=ja&oc=3055bbasic&s=dhs). Also standby mode appears to drain the battery much less than on the eeePC (though, ASUS may have made improvements in the last 6 months). On other hand, the mini 9 has an issue with ssh sessions over wireless and users accidentally hitting the touchpad scroll when typing (can be fixed by running "sudo iwpriv eth1 set_vlanmode 0" and "syndaemon -t -d", respectively). Also, I believe the built-in webcam is extra, but you can upgrade to a much better quality cam than what comes with the eeePC.

Best regards,
Ivan

P.S. Still using your online dictionaries a decade later after finding them. Thanks a lot!
