>>>>> "gray" == gray s <gray_s@example.com> writes: gray> Do you think this related to Laser5 dumping RedHat earlier gray> this year? No. Cygnus and Laser5 have completely different profiles. From what I've seen of Laser5, their goals and advantages mostly concern Japanese localization, and Red Hat can't afford to take such a limited view of things. I'm sure Red Hat would have preferred a compromise; Japanese internationalization expertise is not that easy to come by. But they also can't afford to maintain a fully separate distribution for Japanese, which is what Laser5 (IMO) will find itself committed to. Cygnus, on the other hand, expands Red Hat's open source horizons far beyond Linux. I hope it will have a mellowing effect on _both_ the Cygnus and the Red Hat libc developers ;-) Remember, although glibc is the heart of a GNU/Linux system (the kernel is the brain), Linux is only a small fraction of the systems that glibc supports. And there's embedded systems (eCos), the development toolchain (gcc, gdb, binutils, etc), hardware connections (especially chip manufacturers), etc. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ What are those two straight lines for?
