tlug: TLUG Akihabara Tour 10/23

TLUG Akihabara Tour --
or Where to find (cheap) Linux-compatible parts in Akihabara

Last meeting TLUG member Kinichi Kitano asked if we would
be interested in a guided tour to Akihabara, as he knows
the right places to find Linux-compatible parts, for example:

1. cheap (returned from expired leases) PCs
(Pentium 90, 32MB RAM, 800MB HD, for approximately 10,000 yen)
2. used monitors (17" for less than 10,000 yen)
3. 4x and 6x used CD-ROM drives (less than 2,000 yen)
4. ISA-bus NICs (less than 500 yen)
5. XFree86-supported graphics cards
6. OSS and/or ALSA supported sound cards
7. "junk" parts (mouse, keyboards)

warning: shops dealing with used -- "junk" -- parts usually
don't offer warranties of any kind; with a few expections, the
general rule is no returns (if the problem is evident, it might
be possible to negotiate; if asked in which OS the part was
tested, the recommendation is to answer "Japanese Windows 98" :)

Anyone willing to adventure thru Akihabara back streets?

(tentative schedule: 10/23 Saturday, 13:00 -- meet at Shosen
Book Tower 2F, where the computer books are).
