Well, I got the distinct impression[1] that my Sharp portable MD's digital/optical is two way, but that it's output in such a way that you can't chain in digital; copies of the copy can (supposedly) only be made via analog. An acquaintance of mine told me that he acquired one of the first portable MD recorders, and the instructions for the copy-protect workaround were on the net 3 days later. (No, he didn't do the reverse-engineering himself, he's pretty good with a soldering iron but I don't think his analytical training is up to that.) Naturally, I declined his polite offer to build me one for cost of parts (about 1500 yen in the nice box ;-). Footnotes: [1] OTOH, the instruction booklet is in Japanese and not to hand at the moment, and the advertising is deliberately obfuscated beyond normal Japanese ambiguity (though not to the level of political discourse), I could very easily be wrong. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ What are those two straight lines for?
