I looked through the tlug archives (the search engine was very helpful, thank-you!) to remind myself how to get the cd-rom to work, and the solution was: ln -s /lib/modules/2.0.34-0.6 /lib/modules/2.0.34 I rebooted and now the network card works as well :-).
