You're not by any chance still using 5.0, are you? It's bad medicine,
dude. If I were you, I'd get 5.2 and upgrade immediately. That may
very well solve the cpp problem, and will certainly solve some others
that may or may not have manifested yet. If you can't find a cheap
Redhat CD near you, try <http://www.cheapbytes.com/> ... they probably
have an unofficial RedHat CD (the whole distro minus support & some
value-added software) for under $10.

Are you sure it did? The error message you included in your original
post says 'cpp'. It's still pretty weird, though.
