FYI, Public review documents for JIS Level 3 and 4 were released on 7th November 1998 (PDF format, Japanese only): http://jcs.aa.tufs.ac.jp/pubrev/index.html This will bring in a new standard which will render JISx0212 virtually obsolete (?) and will sit next to JISx0208 creating JIS Levels 1,2,3 and 4 in two standards. The new standard will cover all those unusual kanji used to name things like remote villages in Hokkaido, and consists of around 5000 characters; it will *not* be a supplement set like 0212. If you know of a character that you have a burning desire to get included, now is your chance.
