It could also be that Neil doesn't have a nameserver listed in
/etc/resolv.conf -- the 'magic nameserver'[1] thing doesn't always work,
you know :) 


[1] When I helped Rex set up his PPP connection with TL last week, we
connected and DNS lookup seemed to be working, but there was nothing in
/etc/resolv.conf that would indicate that it should - turns out it was the
caching nameserver (bind) running and handling it....
