I got it to work on two different VAIO 505's.  So, please tell
me if you run into any problems.

If I understand the manual correctly, the CD-ROM has to be
plugged in at boot time to be recognized by the BIOS.  To
me, this sounds like some awful hardware kludge.

A standard PCMCIA SCSI controller should work, I guess.

That would be exciting.  I vaguely remember having read
somewhere on the net about a project that tries to utilize
the infrared ports with Linux.  But, I didn't have the time
to look more closely at it, yet -- and I don't remember
anymore where I read it...
