BASICALLY, yes.  However, it's not always desirable.  For example,
TurboLinux and Redhat are designed to have a fully modular kernel.  If you
drop a slackware kernel in there, some things, ie, some configuration
tools/init scripts may stop working if things are suddenly either compiled
into the kernel or nonexistant.
