RedHat claims that the glibc library makes the boot image too large to fit on a floppy. There was talk on the mailing list of making a libc5-based boot disc, but it hasn't happened yet. > involving RARP, etc., that you need to do for a tftp install is > territory that I've never ventured into and which I sorta hope I can > avoid venturing into when all I want is a nice, smooth install :-) tftp isn't that bad... (Sonny, I remember back before there were "distributions" for the Sparc and we *had* to walk 6 miles through the snow just to tftpboot. :-) If you want to avoid it (and since you are appearing to enjoy moving your SCSI drives around :-): 1. take out one of the drives 2. connect it to another Linux/Unix box 3. 'dd' the tftboot.img onto it 4. connect the drive back to your SPARCstation 5. and boot from that image. The SCSI-sneakernet equivalent of TFTP booting. -- Jim Tittsler, Tokyo ICQ: 5981586 AIM: Jim7J1AJH -------------------------------------------------------------- Next Nomikai: 17 July, 19:30 Tengu TokyoEkiMae 03-3275-3691 Next Meeting: 8 August, Tokyo Station Yaesu central gate 12:30 featuring Linux on multiple platforms: i386, Sparc, PA-Risc, Amiga, SGI, Alpha, PalmPilot, ... -------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsor: PHT, makers of TurboLinux http://www.pht.co.jp
