I'm doing it for the technical challenge. The native PalmOS is great. I don't think Linux will ever be that good on the Pilot hardware due to memory limitations, lack of multi-tasking, and lack of good support for pen input. The hack-value of booting Linux on the Pilot is pretty high. I probably won't use it for much except to see it boot. :-) This is enough for me and worth buying some extra RAM for. I'm still unable to get the output to the screen, though the penguin splash page is now coming out nicely. --- different subject While I'm online, what's the best way to get e-mail to and from my pilot running PalmOS? The pilot running PalmOS is connected with a serial cable to a Linux box running exim and the appropriate POP and IMAP daemons. The Linux box is connected to the Internet via an ISDN TA. I'm using the MTA at my ISP to send mail out and get mail from the Internet using the TLUG server. If I'm not connected to the Internet when I write the mail, exim will spool the mail for me until I get online, then it will send it out. Also, I have a problem with my serial card so that I have to share the IRQ for the TA and the pilot. So, I can't connect to the Internet and to the pilot at the same time. What I'm thinking of doing is: 1) connect to Internet with the Linux box connected to the TA. Send out mail and pick up incoming with fetchmail talking to exim. 2) cut the connection. 3) connect the Pilot to the Linux box using PPP. Use some type of mail program on the pilot to get my mail from the Linux box. Send outgoing mail from the Pilot to the Linux box.
