????? It always has been in English. The author is a German,
sure, but he wrote it in English. Technical literature in
Germany is mostly written in English. Later on he did a German
translation, "Linux fuer Netzwerker". I have the English
version.

No, no. That's just to connect two local computers via the
serial i/f. I use it to simulate and test installations. I have
an old 386SX20 note with 4MB RAM around, a slow bugger and I use
it to simulate an ISP and to test my config. This saves money
and at the same time allows an easy trackdown of config problems
( you just can watch at the server side ).

Of course. This is a PPP configuration for fixed IP addresses.

Well, you could make a script that does a regular "ifconfig" to
detect when ppp0 is up, then starts sendmail, and when sendmail
terminates, does a poff. No problem.
