tlug: SCSI cards

I am having problems getting my current SCSI card to work correctly.  It is
the Adaptec AVA-1502AE/AI and it just doesn't seem to be recognized.
Anyway, I am thinking about purchasing and newer and fast card, NCR810 or
NCR860.  Does anyone know anything about either of these NCR cards?  I
checked the hardware comp. listing and found an NCR 53c8x0 (PCI) and it
sounds right but I'm not sure if that is it.
