Y-M> c. mule If you want to use Canna with Mule, it has to be XEmacs or an old version of FSF Emacs (19.34b with Mule compiled in). FSFmacs 20.x supports neither Canna nor Wnn from what I've heard, only Quail. I believe third parties have done the patches for like Debian-JP Linux and PJE, but the vanilla FSF version won't work. I will have to check this out myself; I don't know for sure. But it's worth checking. Y-M> 2. make them. You should be able to get prebuilt binaries for Solaris and most *BSD platforms for FSFmacs and definitely XEmacs, probably for the others. Certainly for FreeBSD as well. Y-M> 3. write .emacs Y-M> set .Xresources for Japanse Fonts. Optional. It's much prettier if you get those right, though. Y-M> 4. If xlsfonts doesn't have any luck, download basic Y-M> Japanese fonts and put them into proper directory Y-M> or any directory and write so in .Xresources. Not .Xresources; you need to run `mkfontdir' in the proper directory. To find out what the proper directories are, run `xset fp'. Then you probably have to do `xset -fp rehash' if X is already running.
