"You are in a twisty maze of passages, all alike." Except that almost all of them lead to Hell, and some don't.... I strongly recommend that you experiment on a small (200MB partition) with a bare minimum of RH installed and multi-boot between that and your "production" installation. This procedure has saved my ass three times (once with JE, once with Linux 1.3.something, and once with glibc). If RedHat doesn't allow a minimum installation into 200MB, it's time to switch to a different distribution.... >> - Which one is better? Wnn or Canna? (2) Wnn 6 has much more grammatical intelligence, and is likely to make better decisions in many cases. (3) Canna is free software, and continues to be developed as free software. Other than that, they run neck and neck. I like Canna's default interface a little bit better than Wnn's but this is configurable. Both are compatible with kinput2, both are compatible with XIM, both are compatible with Mule. You can run both Canna and Wnn simultaneously; many multi-user installations do. With the most recent XEmacs/Mule (20.5 beta) you can switch between them on the fly; I don't think it's possible on XEmacs 20.3 but I could be wrong. >> - At section 6, it said something like "If you're using client >> software after XFree3.1.2 you'll need to save JX11..." or "You're in a twisty maze of little passages, all alike." PJE overwrites your existing software without so much as a how-do-you-do, I guess (certainly ezinst did that when I last tried it). Anything you want to keep around (eg, because the Japanese version breaks some other part of your system, this is especially common with Japanese TeXs and associated drivers), you had better save. --------------------------------------------------------------- Next Saturday Meeting: 14 February 1998 12:30 Tokyo Station Yaesu Chuo ticket gate. --------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor: TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System www.twics.com info@example.com Tel:03-3351-5977 Fax:03-3353-6096
